Flexible and easy to use

ZEISS T-SCAN family enables high process reliability

The trend towards the use of optical measuring systems continues, but not every solution on the market is equally attractive for customers. The ZEISS T-SCAN family offers several features that stand out compared to other systems. The hand-held scanner is available for different measuring volumes, and is certified following DIN EN ISO 10360 industry standard. In addition, the solution scores with its simple handling and very flexible application options.

Flexible and easy to use

According to Andreas Fuchs, Product Manager at Carl Zeiss Optotechnik GmbH, speed and precision of an optical digitization solution play a major role in decision-making of companies who seek quality and process optimization. To obtain precise results quickly, the handling and evaluation of the recorded data should be "straightforward for every user".

Even novice users are able to work very quickly and consistently with ZEISS T-SCAN family. "Use of the solution is very simple and intuitive, so that anyone can work with a ZEISS T-SCAN after two days of training," emphasizes Andreas Fuchs.

ZEISS T-SCAN family offers great flexibility with high accuracy range. Since there is no physical connection to the tracker, the user can move freely, enabling the measurement to be done at any point in the room without a reference point as long as the tracking camera is within sight of the hand-held scanner.

One system family - many advantages

The complete solution from ZEISS includes a hand-held laser scanner that enables intuitive and highly precise 3D scanning. Thanks to the light and compact housing, it allows ergonomic and fatigue-free working. In addition, components with highly reflective or very dark surfaces can be scanned easily without having to prepare the surface in advance. The high-performance scanner captures 210,000 points per second, which enables a very high data rate when digitizing the components. The exact position of the scanner is made possible by specially designed tracking systems.

Depending on the tracking system, objects with a maximum measuring volume of 10 or 20 cubic meters can be digitized.

The three tracking systems capture the infrared light emitted by the hand-held scanner, locating it precisely in the room. Thanks to the infrared markers, the system works very accurately even in low lighting conditions. The compact system is made for mobile use by means of various tripod solutions or brackets.

Each ZEISS T-SCAN system also includes the corresponding ZEISS software, which has many direct real-time interfaces. The user can follow the digitization of the component without time delay. The standard package also includes the hand-held ZEISS T-POINT touch probe for fast point measurement. In addition, ZEISS offers a calibration set, allowing users to easily calibrate the system on site, ensuring the reliability of the measurement data. The Dynamic Referencing ensures valid data even in unstable environments. By using applied markers, the ZEISS system can compensate vibrations or movements of the component. "The perfectly matched components offer the user maximum flexibility for a multitude of applications."

A certified solution for valid results

Despite all the described advantages offered by the ZEISS system, the key factor for the product manager is without question "the high accuracy, especially of the new ZEISS T-SCAN 10". The big advantage compared to the previous model is that "here we rely on the latest camera technology from ZEISS". All components of this solution were developed and manufactured by ZEISS. This means that everything, from hardware to software, interlocks perfectly. Another new feature is that measurement and inspection are now performed in the GOM Inspect software including a parametric workflow where all process steps are traceable. Thus, the software ensures high process reliability of measurement results and reports. GOM Inspect not only offers an intuitive graphical user interface but also versatile evaluation options for 3D measurement data.

ZEISS T-SCAN 10 is certified following DIN EN ISO 10360. For Andreas Fuchs, DIN EN ISO 10360 is "a very strict standard". The results are therefore all the more pleasing for him. For ZEISS T-SCAN 10, the certification confirms a maximum deviation of 30 µ from the center of a sphere plus 30 µ length deviation per meter. This means that "our system delivers demonstrably trustworthy data", says Andreas Fuchs. For companies, this certification therefore means "complete recognition of the respective measurement results and high process reliability".
